DEVELOPMENT CASE
CenterPlan was chosen by the City of Copenhagen to participate in a bidding competition as one out of five regarding a new parking facility in central Copenhagen. The bid should include a design proposal and a purchase price for the plot.
The competition was part of the overall parking strategy for the City and the key criteria, apart from price, was that the facility should include between 300 and 500 parking spaces and project design would also play an important role in the final judgment. CenterPlan teamed up with Bjarke Ingels from BIG, one of the most successful Danish architects of today, and entered the competition with a project proposal that differed significantly from the competitors; instead of delivering a standard parking house, CenterPlan proposed a building that contained not only the maximum number of parking spaces but in combination with significant city-elements - a retail ground floor, attractive residential units placed on the front and unique roof terrace on the roof of the construction.
The total area of 22.670 sqm.
